Speak the Speech Monologue Camp IV (CITY LIT)

July 10-14

Speak the speech, I pray you, trippingly on the tongue...

It's a monologue extravaganza at Viola Project!  Our fourth annual Speak the Speech camp is here, this time for a full week!  We're taking it a step further to give campers the opportunity to prep 2 contrasting monologues to really showcase their acting ability.  Whether you are looking to gain confidence, just want to explore Shakespeare's characters, or you're prepping for auditions, this is the camp for you! Each camper will leave with two audition ready monologues.

Guest Workshops:
- Kevin Long, who frequently teaches workshops at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. This will be a workshop on text analysis.
- Deven Hartley, Agent at Paonessa Talent Agency. This will be a workshop about the world of auditioning and casting.

This camp is open only to Viola Project veterans, or very serious acting students. Ages 12-16

A drum! A drum!  Macbeth doth come!

Nothing says summer more than taking a good old trip to war torn Scotland for some witchcraft, murder and regicide!   Shakespeare's play of prophecies, uninvited dinner ghosts and those darn bloody spots goes great with ice cream and beach day.  Join us for a bit of fun with Macbeth and his ultimate evil Queen, the esteemed Lady M.  You're invited to Dunsinane this summer... just try not to say the "M Word" in the theatre...

Guest Workshop and Field Trip:
- Workshop with R&D Fight Choreography

July 24-28

For God's sake, let us sit upon the ground And tell sad stories of the death of kings
History has its eyes on you

What do Shakespeare and Lin-Manuel Miranda have in common?  A lot, it turns out!  Both writers re-imagine history as exceptional entertainment and performed to sold out houses  Both are able to make old stories feel electric and exciting.  Join The Viola Project as we explore and perform Shakespeare’s history plays like Henry V and Richard II in a new light and bring our own take on the past -- this time with more girl power!  If you're a Hamilton fan and you want to see what all the Shakespeare fuss is about, this camp is for you!

Guest Workshop and Field Trip:
- Workshop with Young Chicago Authors, the producers of Louder than a Bomb
- Additional workshop/field trip TBA
